Propalin
Chewable Tablets
Propalin is not
FDA approved for use in dogs and cats, but is a common and accepted
practice to use phenylpropanolamine for urinary incontinence in
dogs. Urinary incontinence is more common in larger breed female
dogs who have been spayed. It can occur in unspayed females or in
males also. Available by prescription and over the counter. Response
to treatment should be seen in 4-7 days. Missed doses may cause
the urine leakage to recur. Other medications are available if this
one does not stop the incontinence. Consult your veterinarian.
Usual Dose and Administration
Dogs: 0.5 mg/pound by mouth every 8-12 hours OR one 75 mg sustained-release
capsule by mouth every 12-24 hours. Cats: 12.5 mg by mouth per cat
every 8-12 hours. Usually need to treat long term, but some pets
may only need to be treated for several months or seasonally.
